About
Martin Chaix (sheks - /ʃɛks/). Choreographer. Benois de la Danse nominee 2024.
Independent and project-based, Martin Chaix makes ballets examining what classical technique takes for granted and what contemporary assumes, until something neither tradition permitted becomes possible. His works move between full-evening narrative and pure abstraction. He has created for the Bolshoi Ballet, Wiener Staatsballett, Opéra national du Rhin, Leipzig Ballet, Saarland State Theater, Ballett am Rhein, Paris Opéra Ballet School, and Liaoning Ballet. His Giselle received a Benois de la Danse nomination in 2024.
Seventeen years of performing with Paris Opéra Ballet, Leipzig Ballet, and Ballett am Rhein grounded a practice and experience that have shaped a multi-layered vision — a knowledge of different stylistic approaches lived from the inside, its specificities and its silences equally familiar.
Alongside his choreographic work, he engages students in a creative process, nurturing their own relationship to dance — creation and encounter at an age that shapes minds and bodies toward a world of constant discourse and genuine curiosity.
